Explore, in a way never before presented, how these women exemplified the “pioneering spirit” of their era.

Follow the adventures in The P.E.O. Founders’ Scrapbook to find the answers to these questions

• Which founder has ancestors still deeply involved with Iowa Wesleyan?

• Which one was released from her teaching position after many years with a school district?

• Which one wrote lyrics to a song?

• Who had family connections to the Underground Railway?

• Whose husband ran a campaign vying for the office of Governor of Iowa?

• Which founder’s children were raised by an uncle and aunt?

• Whose name may have been “misspelled’ for years?

Author Sharon S. Atkins has compiled the authoritative guide to the lives of the founders of P.E.O. including life event timelines, family tree charts, and source citations for the genealogy research involved in creating The P.E.O. Founders’ Scrapbook.

The PEO Founders' Scrapbook eBook Sharon S Atkins Reviews

Gave this to a friend who is in PEO. SHe was thrilled.
Interesting historical information on the founders and their families.
Planning a program and this has been a great value to me!
Lots of interesting information with photocopies of original documents pertaining to each of the seven founders of P.E.O. I got the e-book version and it is easy to look up information on a particular founder. There is also information on family connections. Excellent, P.E.O. Sisters. You will enjoy!
It had a nice summary chart of key dates per individual. It also has lots of references for where the info was found. But not much story. I was looking for info about the first few years of PEO, especially after they graduated and started bringing in new members. The pictures were not good quality and some documents were very hard to see or read. Not sure why the quality of the printing was so poor.
As a genealogist and a P.E.O. I can tell I am going to love this book. This would be an excellent resource for any P.E.O. chapter, as any chapter could get several nice Founder's day programs from this book. For each of the 7 seven founders, the author includes several pages telling about them, a timeline of events in their life, historical background sources and a descendant chart report. This would also be a nice book for anyone who is descended from any of the seven founders. She includes newspaper articles, photos and information for each one. For some, she included poems, letters or a song that the founder wrote. Sharon Atkins is a genealogist so it is written from the point of a genealogist. I now have many ideas for my next Founder's day program.
Fascinating! This book provides an in-depth peak into the lives of the Seven Founders of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. I especially enjoyed being able to more closely connect the circumstances of the era in which they lived with the influences that shaped the organization. Sharon Atkins' research was extraordinary. Small details she unearthed help provide a greater understanding of life immediately prior to and following the War Between the States. Images of the young girls watching their brothers and fathers march off to war still linger in my mind. Reading their letters and connecting their thoughts with the historical experiences surrounding them made it a worthwhile study, even without the personal link to our Sisterhood.
Thank you to Sharon Atkins for her efforts.
